It depends on your printer type. Direct thermal printers use heat‑sensitive coated paper that develops images directly through heating, without a ribbon. Thermal transfer printers require a ribbon, using heat to transfer ink from the ribbon onto the label surface. You can check your printer model or consult the manufacturer to confirm.

Carbonless paper (also called pressure‑sensitive paper) must be printed with a dot‑matrix printer. Inkjet or laser printers cannot produce the multi‑ply copy effect and may damage the equipment.

Common causes include: (1) Paper loaded upside down – scratch the paper surface with your fingernail; the side that leaves a black mark is the printable side and must face up; (2) Poor paper quality – expired, damp, or low‑grade paper; (3) Dirty print head – clean it with a dedicated cleaning pen or soft cloth.

Store paper in a cool, dry indoor environment, away from direct sunlight, high temperatures, and moisture. Damp or degraded paper not only prints poorly but also produces paper dust, causes jams, and can even damage the print head.

The focus is on lubrication and blade maintenance. Regularly lubricate transmission parts; keep slitter blades sharp – dull or damaged blades should be resharpened or replaced promptly to avoid uneven cuts.
